-Anatomy of a Hipster #56.
Well sometimes I think that I’m bigger than the sound.
– Cheated Hearts- Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Today’s band: Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Yeah. Yeah yeah.
Not much to say about them, I think their awesome-ness does all the explaining for me. A New York based band, they met in college. (Interesting fact: they also shared a loft with the future members of Metric in Manhattan) According to an interview, the band’s name was taken from modern New York vernacular. They will be playing on Friday...
Watching Charlie's Angels
Matthew: Watching this movie makes me want to have a cigarette, they're always smoking in all the scenes!
(Sam Rockwell dances)
Hollie: Watching this movie makes me want to make out with Sam Rockwell. I mean, my goodness, look at him.
Taking a break from the artist-a-day thing today, due to the massive amounts of homework I have piling up. Sigh. Yeah yeah yeahs tomorrow!
For Amanda :)
Pitchfork: You play a lot of covers, I’m curious about the spirit in which you approach these covers, whether it’s more revisionist or more direct. In your cover of Joanna Newsom’s “Bridges & Balloons” for instance, you change, perhaps inadvertently, a couple key words that really affect the meaning of the song. When she says “brace and buoy the living...

The Decemberists
Ohhh this band. Is fantastic. They are from Portland, Oregon, and self-released their debut EP in 2001. Since then, they have been signed to Capitol Records and have released 5 full length albums. I actually haven’t gotten a chance to listen to their newest album, Hazards of Love, but I will most likely be doing that all day today. :)
Come out from the world and into my arms, like wind on the water with me.
– Blitzen Trapper, Wild Mountain Nation
griptape:
“Furr (Acoustic)” - Blitzen Trapper
Me: I just made a new friend, and also a pinata. :)
Tim: That's what I call a good day.
*How did you all hone your wolf howling skills like the ones you showcase on the Daytrotter version of “Badger’s Black Brigade”?*
MM: Some of us were raised by wolves, and the others are werewolves. We added it to the repertoire on the night of a full moon in Houston probably, though it was unclear who howled first that night - the crowd or one of us. *Would you have liked to...
Blitzen Trapper
Today = Blitzen Trapper. Playing on Friday 1.30 - 2.30. I’ve already seen these guys live, and trust me, they are wonderful. The Blitzen Trapper sextet formed in 2000, and is a Portland, Oregon-based experimental folk rock band. They self-released their first three albums, and their newest album, Furr, was ranked #13 in Rolling Stone’s Best Albums of 2008.

Interview with Justin Vernon pt II →
This is a phenomenal interview with the singer/songwriter of Bon Iver. Anything you ever wanted to know about the guy is right here.
Interview with Justin Vernon
Treble: In another recent interview, you mentioned a unique method you had of coming up with your vocal parts – how you would not come up with the lyrics first, but the actual vocals, which you would then “interpret” into words. JV: It’s exciting for me. It’s a new thing. Basically, I had a lot on my mind, but it was stuff that I had tried to write about. I would get so...
